Welcome to LYS! My name is Glynn Gross, and I’ll be your Program Director for the week. With me, are the Assistant Program Directors Lindsey Powell and Grant Henry and 29 staff members, and the LYS Webinar team who are here to support you as you engage with our program in this virtual format. At LYS, we begin each day with a roll call (imagine - students cheering loudly and a whistle being blown to calm a crowd of 300+ delegates). Our goal is to check that everyone is with us and ready to begin the activities of the day, and in this virtual format the roll call will be a daily letter from one of us. Before we go any further, is there anyone you want to text and make sure they’re ready to begin the LYS Webinar?

The theme of LYS 2020 is “Leadership is Essential.” We need great leaders now more than ever, and you are here at the LYS Webinar because you want to enhance your leadership skills. At LYS, we know the power and potential of young leaders! You are essential! We have also found that teamwork & relationships, communication, involvement & impact, identifying strengths, and reflection & growth are essential to leadership, and that is why we will dedicate each day this week to one of these key focus areas.

You also might have recognized that our logo has been changed to look like the chalk mosaics that were popping up in neighborhoods and on social media at the beginning of the quarantine. Just like those chalk drawings were a reminder that we are all connected, let the logo serve as a reminder that this webinar is an example of how we can come together even when we must stay apart. L is for Let’s Get Ready, and this is how you will start everyday. In this section, you will be setting yourself up for success as we reveal the focus for that day. There will be a daily note, quote, song, and coloring page. We will also link the words to A Wish for Leaders each day in this portion. This section was crafted for you to reflect on what you learned the previous day and to reflect on what you know about the daily focus before beginning. At LYS we often say you will get out of the program what you put in, so use this time to help you prepare to put in the work.
